My Year of Service With The Set Me Free Project

I've been serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA for almost a year now with The Set Me Free Project. The VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program is a federal grant that allows non-profits to hire volunteers for a one year contract to build the capacity of the organization (think of it as a domestic version of the Peace Corps). When I first started, I was straight out of grad school and looking to gain some experience while making a difference in the world. Besides that, I wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was a brilliant and caring family. When I started, we were an organization that primarily serviced schools in Omaha and surrounding areas. In the year since, we have not only expanded to all corners of Nebraska, but all across Iowa as well. In my year of service, I built a data collection system through grant sponsorships so we could track where we were presenting and who we were presenting to. Through the help of all of my colleagues, I learned why I should care about human trafficking education and more specifically, how I can help. I serve with The Set Me Free Project because I have seen first hand what we bring to the community and how effective we are at human trafficking education.

Thank you for your incredible contributions to the team Nathan, we will miss you! - The Set Me Free Project Team
